This month, King’s Lodge Centre for Complex Needs resident, Nick Kemp, celebrated his 47th birthday by launching 99 red balloons in the centre’s grounds.

Nick had also designed special labels with a message and mobile number to call in the hope that anyone finding a balloon will get in touch to let him know how far the balloon travelled.

Nick said: “I love the words in the song ‘99 Red Balloons’ and hope when I send the balloons up the song is playing. I thought one day, if I ever had a chance, I would love to do that. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would happen. Well, Kings Lodge made  it happen on my birthday, what more can I say? Thank you everyone.”

The centre’s activities co-ordinator, Jane Neave, has made it all possible. She said:
“I was just sitting with Nick one day having a chat and I asked him what he would most like to do. He mentioned to me that his dream was to one day send 99 red balloons up in the sky, sitting on a beach.  So, I suggested that we let them off from Kings Lodge for everyone to see. The activities team worked on it and we were all very excited to see it happen!”
