Whorlton Hall Hospital in Barnard Castle, part of the Danshell Group, has recognised the dedication and commitment of four members of its team.

Yvonne Dean-Johnson, 62, has been employed as a Healthcare Support Worker for 30 years.    In a career that has seen service users and colleagues come and go, Yvonne has been a constant of the team and her dedication was acknowledged at a party held at the hospital.

Yvonne was presented with flowers and a cash sum to mark the occasion at a party with colleagues, attended by some of the people the hospital supports.

Also celebrating long-service were Debbie Bell, a Healthcare Support Worker who has been a colleague for 20 years, as well as Chef Pawel Wnetrzak and Service Manager Chris Shield, who have both been employed for 10 years.

Yvonne said:  “I love working at Whorlton Hall. It can be challenging at times, but it’s also so rewarding watching people flourish with the right support.

“I’ve worked with lots of different people over the years and they’ve all been fantastic. Danshell is a great company to work for. They look after their colleagues in the same way they look after the people they support.  I’m very happy here and looking forward to a few more years yet.”

Sharena Record, Divisional Managing Director for Danshell’s Central division, said:  “Our staff work really hard and are so dedicated and it’s important that we mark occasions like this and say thank you.   I’m personally very proud to work for an organisation that has such dedicated people and to celebrate with these four colleagues is amazing.

“It is also beneficial for the people we support to be able to see a familiar and friendly face every day, it really helps their recovery and supports them to achieve their personal objectives.”

Chris Shield, Manager of Whorlton Hall, said:  “This is a remarkable achievement for Yvonne and one well worth marking.

“Between the four of us we have 70 years at Whorlton Hall and what makes it such a nice place to work is the togetherness and the commitment of the team.   It’s not always easy supporting the people we work with, but the rewards are in the job satisfaction we get making a difference to someone’s life.”

Whorlton Hall, an Independent Hospital for adults living with a learning disability, is looking for people to join the team, both Healthcare Support Workers and Nurses.
