Donning the jolly green outfits of Santa’s little helpers, staff of residential care homes St Mary’s Court and The New Deanery put on a festive spectacle at Braintree Freeport.

The elves greeted Christmas shoppers throughout the afternoon and raised a total of £273.66 for the Alzheimer’s Society, in support of the charity’s fundraising Elf Walks.

Activities Manager for the two Braintree homes, Jo Whitehouse, described “It was such a fun but rather chilly afternoon. With our army of elves we managed to raise a good amount of money and awareness for Alzheimer’s.”

Later in the day staff held a mini elf-walk around the care homes to include residents in the fundraising fun.

Jo said “A huge thank you to everyone who took part & generously donated to this very worthy cause. It really is great to see everyone coming together for these fundraising events. I would also like to thank Freeport for allowing us to collect there.”

Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia support and research charity, assisting anyone affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
