Talented care home residents have put on an exhibition of their arts and crafts work.

The show at the Pendine Park care organisation in Wrexham was held to celebrate National Care Home Open Day.

Among their homes taking part were Bryn Bella and Highfield where there were also  games and quizzes going on.

Residents handed out home-made badges carrying messages to their carers such as ‘You Make Me Smile’, You’re a Star and ‘You Make Me Laugh’.

According to Pendine Park enrichment and activities co-ordinators Chris Lewis and Nicky Clarke the theme was Celebration.

Chris said: “It’s an opportunity for us to show what our residents do during the year and what is available to them on a weekly or even daily basis.

“Good care homes do great things all year round and this one day highlights some of the things we do here at Pendine Park.

“The residents of both Bryn Bella and Highfield House have all come together to enjoy a coffee morning with a quiz and a few games while also displaying their arts and crafts work.”

Highfield House resident Gladys Cross, 84, said: “I have been here at Highfield House for about a year and really enjoy it. I like the arts and craft classes we have twice or three times a week.

“I like sewing and needlework but I’m not that keen on quizzes to be honest. It’s really nice to see all our work on display. And I also like the badges we helped make for the care staff.”

Tracey Wilde, 52, who has been a resident of Bryn Bella for more than three years, said: “I would like to live independently but I can’t. Bryn Bella is a good place and I like the staff.

“I enjoy arts and crafts and have knitted a blanket, although it isn’t finished yet. I go to classes twice a week and enjoy it. It’s really good seeing all our work on display. People like to do different things; I like knitting although I have to take my time.”

Bryn Bella resident Christine Jones, 72, added: “I like art work and like living at Bryn Bella. I have art classes three times a week and like doing colour work.

“My drawings and colouring work are on display as well as some of the pots I have painted. I enjoy doing art work.”

Enrichment and activities co-ordinator Nicky Clarke said: “Residents are proud of their work and enjoy seeing it exhibited. I’m always surprised at the sheer quality of their work and the effort and time they put into it.”

“I think relatives and any other visitors who see this display will enjoy and appreciate all their hard work.”

Pendine Park proprietor Mario Kreft MBE added: “We are passionate about enhancing the quality of life for our residents and our domiciliary care clients through our enrichment programme which wholeheartedly embraces the arts as means of reaching out to people.”
