107th birthday celebrated at Lincoln care home

    107bAmy Gledhill celebrated her 107th birthday with family, friends and staff at Ruckland Court Care home in Lincoln. Amy enjoyed a fantastic cake presented to her by Home Manager Angie Smith.


    Amy puts her longevity down to an active life and continuing to keep her mind alert. Amy was born at West Ardsley Reservoir, Wakefield in Yorkshire in the family home. Her father worked at the reservoir which was constructed in 1888.  She married James William Gledhill in 1931 at the age of 22, they later had one son, named Robert.


    Amy worked as the private secretary to Sir Harry Hardy in Morely, then later Secretary to the Town Clerk in Morley Town Hall. Amy moved to Lincolnshire when her husband was posted to RAF Coningsby. She lived in Dunholme before coming to Ruckland Court on 4th November 2010.


    Amy enjoyed dressmaking, tennis and taking foreign holidays, she also walked three to four miles along the seafront every day until well into her 90s. She also liked doing crosswords and puzzles and enjoyed watching snooker and tennis on TV.

    Kim Atkinson Senior Carer at Ruckland Court said “She’s a remarkable lady, all the residents and staff love her and she’s thoroughly enjoyed her birthday”.
