Irene, appointed General Manager at the retirement village, said: “I’ve had a fabulous welcome and while the buildings haven’t changed considerably, the concept has.”
Irene oversaw work to the final extension of the village before leaving in 1996 to pursue her career in other areas of the care sector. On her recent return, the builders were here again – this time refurbishing the main clubhouse and communal areas to hotel-style standards.
“It is a wonderful place to work – extremely varied, interesting and hugely satisfying – and I find it incredible that some of the residents can remember me from 15 years ago!” added Irene, who lives in Bristol.
After qualifying as a registered nurse in Bath in 1983, Irene has worked across all sectors of healthcare for the NHS, private and charitable organisations and she brings a wealth of experience to her new employer Retirement Villages Ltd.
The national company acquired Avonpark Village in 2010 and has invested £1million refurbishing it. Its business model is to provide retirees with a ‘first class quality of life within a sociable and supportive community’.
Avonpark Village offers independent living in privately-owned properties, as well as residential, nursing and dementia care. As General Manager, Irene will oversee the village’s care service, ensuring it continues to provide one of the area’s top facilities of its kind.
Retirement Villages Ltd has been developing and managing bespoke lifestyle and care villages for the over 55s for 30 years. The pioneers of the UK model, the company now has approaching 2,000 residents living in 13 locations spread across 10 counties in the south of the country.
